Know The Shades Of Words
Labels: analogies, GRE | author: Kernel TicksIn GRE, analogies is very difficult part. In analogies you have to find the relation between given two words and have to choose an answer with same relation from given five choices. Here is one idea is to know the shades of the words. The shades of the words categorized positive, neutral and negative. It can be explained neatly with following example.
Patriotic:Chauvinistic
a) impudent : intolerant
b) furtive : surreptitious
c) incisive : trenchant
d) receptive : gullible
e) verbose : prolix
The Patriotic - love country and Chauvinistic - love country
but the chauvinistic is extreme patriotic also called as jingoist so patriotic is a postitive word and chauvinistic is a negative word.
a) impudent -> disrespect | intolerant -> not willing to tolerate
as impudent and intolerant not related to each other at all.
b) furtive -> with quiet, caution and secrecy | surreptitious -> with quiet, caution and secrecy as both are neutral word.
c)incisive -> sharp | trenchant -> sharp as both are neutral word.
d)receptive -> who is open to argument, ideas and change. It is a positive word.
gullible -> who is easily tricked and too trusting. It is a negative word.
e) verbose -> containing too many words. | prolix -> tediously prolonged. Both are with same meaning but neutral words.
So the choice is d.
How GRE Computer Based Test Works?
Labels: CBT, GRE | author: Kernel TicksThe GRE Computer Based Test(CBT) is also some times called as Computer Adaptive Test (CAT). GRE CBT works on 50 Percentile principle. It means that when first question appears in exam is a medium level question. If you answer the question correctly then the next question appeared is a hard level question. If you answer this question also then the harder question is appeared. But if you answered wrong , it would give you medium level question. In the first 5 to 6 questions , the computer understands the IQ of the examinee and then it keeps giving that level question. It is also said that as you going on appear harder questions, the score may be more.
